So...
Jenn suggested I put something here, and I figured I heed my wise wife's advice and do as she said. Hmm, what to say. For one thing; swimming makes you tired. For those of you who didn't know, I am getting a weekly lesson in humility, otherwise know as 'adult swimming class'. There is a regular size pool, with 6 lanes full of people learning how to swim. 5 of those lanes are children, 1 of those lanes is adults. As of tonight I have completed 7 lessons (or 8?), and if I can keep up with the 7 year olds in the next lane, I feel like I am having a good night. There is a lot to be said about learning things like this when you're a kid!
I think my best stroke so far is the back stroke, followed by the front crawl. Breast-stroke, well, it's the 'whip-kick' that is just not there; as a swimming colleague put it "this is my weekly reminder of my lack of coordination..." But I'm glad I'm in the class (glad that Jenn pushed me to do it) because I have learned a lot, and if I can take it a little further, I think it would be an enjoyable form of excercise.

ok. So my sisters said that they were going to delete us from their favorites if I didn't update soon. So here it is. We'll start with a few words and then show some recent photos. Good enough. Well, life's been pretty good so far this new year. I was going to say "this term" but even though I'm isolated in the dungon of the school many hours a week and am operating on the semester system and when the next assignment is due, Dan is like the average Winnipeger and is just looking foward to some nicer weather!!
Work has been good for Dan. He's been able to work on more marketing materials such as fly through's which he has really enjoyed creating. He's midway through his swimming lessons and I'm very proud of his accomplishments. So far the one thing he doesn't like is the breaststroke!! He's still playing on the worship team at church and is enjoying it....although now we're up to 3 services (9:09am, 11:11am, and 1:01pm) so it makes for a longer day since he's at church from 8 to 3....which is where he is right now!!
School is school. My studio prof this term is very abstract and distant, so it makes it very difficult to get an answer or clarification out of him. But I'm trucking along. For those of you who don't know, I went to PEI for a week for school Feb 11-16. Probably the worst time to go, since there were 2 blizzards that passed through during that time. It was really cool to go there, a nice sort of vacation, since the school aspect of it was quite unproductive. PEI is the site for our flood studio in which we are dealing with climate change and sea level rise. I'm currently in the process of coming up with 3 different concepts for Friday to present, but my theme is looking to connect forest patches with corridors (wheather streams or roads) and these would be used for wildlife and pedestrians. I also have to address the issue of future urbanization and of course sea level rise....my current ideas are circulating around treehouses, stump benches, cantilevers, floating boardwalks, suspended rivers, and enclosed roadways....we'll see what happens.....stay tuned!! (ie. please don't delete us from your favorites!! :) ) Besides school for me not much else is new....reading week just finished so it's back to the grindstone!!

Very Long Time No Talk....
For those of you who are not yet into facebook....well then we're sorry that we have not been keeping regular updates on our blog. Since our last posting in April, I guess you could say a lot has happened. I, Jennifer, finished my winter semester at school and then immediately started my summer studio. That went until mid-June, upon which Dan and I booted it out of Winnipeg and headed towards to coast (ie. Mission). We had a wonderful summer stay at my parent's new house....one that was fully air conditioned when then temp. reached 40 Celsius. I, Jennifer, worked as a landscape maintenance person for about 2.5 weeks, and then I did landscape construction for 2 weeks.....and then I was sick for the rest of the summer, fighting and winning the battle against PARASITES!!! Ew.....Dan on the other hand had the 40 min. journey one-way each day to Chilliwack, to work with the boss and the other dude. But he said it was worth it, just to be able to work with other people again instead of talking to yourself like he was doing in Winnipeg. During the summer we visited lots with family and friends, and got to go camping with sista Jess, doing the Duffy Lake Road loop. It was all fun times!!
So now we're back in Winnipeg for another year of life.....we celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary yesterday......YEAH!! I'm fully back into school and Dan is back to work in our little basement suite, and yes he is again working alone and yes soon enough he will be talking to himeself again!!! Enough talk.....see below of some of our adventures since April!!!

Hmmmmm
So.... guess what!
Jenn is not doing homework. In fact she hasn't done any for the past 4 days! Yup she's done her courses for now! So she has been sleeping in, watching movies, cleaning the house (apparently I don't do a good enough job while she's in school :), and as of right now, talking on the phone to Cousin Jeffrey Johnson. About law. Because that's what he is going to school for. Crazy guy.
What else- oh yes, my eldest sister Rachel was here for 6 days. So that was grand! Our first visitor from back home. This meant that we had to buy something for her to sleep on while she was here (although she did offer to sleep on the couch.) But we would never do that to our family members: so we went to a small store called Dream On Futons. You guessed it, we bought a futon. What a fun word hey? Fuuuuton. Fuuuuuuuuuton. Futawwwwwwwwwwn. Futonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. Anyhoo.
So what did we do? Lots of stuff. First we opened presents that she had brought along from our family! YAY (Thanks Mom & Dad, Caralee & David, Becca & Ken!!!)
Then lots of random Winnipeg things: lots of walking, eating, going for coffee, etc. Twas good!

Saturday Rachel and I went to Bird's Hill Park for a walk- it was beautiful and warm! Just have to get a new sense of appreciation for the shorter and different trees.... :) 
Jenn and Rachel went for a walkabout of the downtown area just to explore (and of course shop a little bit!)
Oh and Jenn's Oma was here with Aunt Marlene, so we had them over for dinner on Saturday; lots and lots of ribs!

No more pics today
So apparently there's a limit on uploading pictures per day. So I will upload more when I become an unprocrastinator again.
Becoming not a procrastinator
Here I am- on the road to recovery from being a procrastinator. They say the first step to healing is admitting. So I just admitted that I am a procrastinator.
Step number two? Stop procrastinating. Sure. That's easy enough. Just start doing something. So I will. Right....about....well as soon as I feel like it.
HA. Just kidding. To prove I am becoming an unprocrastinator (which is the opposite of a procrastinator, in case you were wondering) I shall right now post the pictures my in-laws have been asking me for. Just like that. Done. No more procrastinating for me. I feel so much better already. Oh- what? Oh I actually should post those pictures? Heh-heh... yes I know....
Ok so we'll start- standing in our little pantry/under-the stairs storage area, looking out into the great room and kitchen area. You can see our island, with the raised eating bar- a very nice little feature. So far we've eaten all our meals there, as you can see Jenn's work occupies the entire kitchen table. (You can also see that the ceiling isn't exactly done- Michael and I may be tackling that this Saturday.)

Confessions of a Procrastinator
So......
The other night Jenn's sisters Jess and Kat were having fun making me feel guilty. "Guess what Dan, we look at your guys' blog almost every day, and you don't post very often" "Guess what Dan, Dad finally made those shadow-box frames that you said you would make for my paintings, gee, what, a year ago?" "Guess what Dan, those pictures of your place that you said you would post, they're still not up!"
So, in response, I admit it. I sometimes procrastinate when I say I will do things. Just sometimes. Sometimes I buckle down and get things finished quickly. The coffee table I made for Jenn/me? That only took, well, just over a year. Ok bad example. How about the shelf and shoe rack I made for Becca and Ken's wedding June 10th? That one was done in record time; I finished it the day before we left for Winnipeg on August 28th. Ok. Another bad example. Soooooo..... am I a procrastinator? I have never thought of myself as one. Hmmm.

Time for an update!!!
Hey all,
I know I'm overdue for an update, so please don't be upset if you've been waiting for the next installment of "Dan & Jenn's Life in Winnipeg."
Ok so where should I start.... Well one exciting development is that I'm sitting at the computer in the office in the basement! We are almost moved in; and I already have my office set up down here. Tomorrow night we are getting the carpets shampooed to get rid of all the construction dust, and then we can moooooove on down. Jenn and I are both really excited; as nice as Michael and Esther are, personal space is still highly valued to us.
What else is new- oh yes- last weekend we were in BC for David & Caralee's wedding; just a quick fly-in and fly-out weekend. We were able to spend some time with both our families outside of the wedding which was so nice. Being away really makes you realize how much you miss the people closest to you. Jenn and I are both really excited for Christmas; it'll be 3 straight weeks of hanging out with our families!!!
While we were in BC we also got a chance to hang out with Brian and Jalene (our former landlords) for a little bit, and we were privileged to see (and hold) their newborn son: Ethan Thomas Keith Davies- what an awesome thing to see! (I really, really enjoyed holding him; which made Jenn a little nervous :)
Other than that quick little jaunt, not too much else is new except that Jenn's schooling is still sailing along and she's starting off on her second studio project. I will post her first project hopefully tonight. Please keep pryaing for Jenn in her schooling- it is a lot of work for her, and sometimes she feels quite frustrated with not knowing how to meet the expectations of the instructors.
Oh. AND IT SNOWED ON OCTOBER 11TH! WHAT THE HECK! I WAS TOLD WINNIPEG WAS A WARM AND LUSCIOUS TROPICAL CLIMATE WITH WHITE BEACHES AND WARM BLUE WATER! Ok so I wasn't told that, and I was expecting snow sometime this month, but not October 11th... The snow is all gone now, but it was here, and it's supposed to be here again this week. Hmmm, maybe I'll pull out the cross country skis..... :)
As far as church goes, most Sundays we have been going to a place called Soul Sanctuary that's only a five minute walk from our house. We both feel pretty comfortable there, and it seems that there would be a lot of chances for us to get involved in the ministries there if we stay. So we'll keep going there for a few more weeks and then decide if we want to stay or search some more for a home. You can check out the church website for a flavour of what it's like. I think some of the services are even online there, along with some blogs from the pastors.....

3:00 in the morning...
So last night my dear Jennifer came in from her travails at 3:00 in the morning. And then she was up again at 7:30. Now it is 11:30. And she is still going. She's nuts, but she has that stubborn Janzen streak that won't stop going when there's work to be done. (Sorry if the Janzens disagree with that, but I think you all know already :)
NEWS FLASH; Jenn just said her brain is fuzzy. Gee, after what she's been doing I don't doubt it.
As for me... I had to take our car in for a safety inspection today so that we can insure it here in Manitoba, so rather than wasting time I brought our laptop along and just started working at the dealership. I had so much fun; it was SO nice to work with people around me again, even though they weren't talking to me. Sometimes I feel like I am going bonkers sitting in the house all by myself. Jenn says I am bonkers- quite often I find myself just talking or singing to my computer... So there may be a new trend started; I may take up going to a Tim Hortons to work every now and then for my sanity's sake. (Sorry Katrina I did not just say that. I meant to say Starbucks. Really honestly! :)
Anyhoo just thought I'd give you a glimpse into what our life is like right now. That's right. It's crazy. I will try to post some more of Jenn's work soon- it's looking great. Her first project for her Studio is due next Wednesday, so she has to get a lot put out between now and then.

The artist's work..
So Jenn was pretty skeptical of sketch camp when she set out, and sketching is still a frustrating subject for her... but I was pretty impressed with the sketches she brought home. So here they are:

Change in Blog management
Ok- just so all of you faithful readers (I call you faithful because I know you were all checking the blog every day for the past months just waiting for my next posting!) are all aware - this blog is now going to represent not only my life, but also Jenn's, as a way of keeping everyone back in the beautiful part of the country up to date on our lives out here in Manitoba.
So... it will hopefully include things such as pictures of our ventures into the city, our latest work, ramblings, etc. I will more than likely still be the one doing the posting, as currently it looks like Jenn is going to be way too busy to do anything besides school... and hopefully spending some time with me!
Also I promise it will be updated much more regularly than my previous once every four to six months! It will have to be, because I promised my mother-in-law it would be!
So now that you're all updated on the management side of it... enjoy!

Last weekend
Out for a short walk in -15? weather.
So last weekend I surprised Jenn with a trip to Calgary, which was a blast. It was pretty much a last minute kind of thing, but I managed to get her shift covered, and book my time off of work, so everything went well. I even managed to pack all of her stuff for the weekend without her knowing! She had no idea until we were at the airport, at which point she got so excited that it was all worth it, and we hadn't even left yet. I had been pretty sure that she would be happy with the trip, but there was this lingering 'what if she doesn't?' in my mind, so when she became ecstatic, it totally made my day!
I thought of the trip because her parents were heading out for an early Christmas gathering with her dad's side, so I thought it would be fun to join them. We basically just hung out with her dad's family and ate too much food. It was neat to meet some of her uncles and families who I hadn't met yet. Her dad's family is all crazy smart... at least 3 of them are in the oil industry, some of them are engineers, one of them is an airplane mechanic. I just really enjoy listening to them all talk about all of this technical stuff that I don't really grasp. I know, I'm weird.

So I thought I'd get in on the blog thing- seems like a good way to keep people up to date on my life... I'll see how it goes. I have really appreciated viewing my other friends' blogs, getting up to speed on what they're going through, thinking about, etc... hopefully this will blog will do that for those who view it.
Currently I'm sitting at my desk, eating an awesome lunch which is leftover from an awesome supper that Jenn made last night. Marriage is so much fun, having a wife to cook and clean for me... :) I'm gonna get it when she reads that! We just talked last night about showing love through our actions- I need to make sure that I step up and initiate taking care of my part of the household chores, not be the typical guy...
